Survival Skill

When it comes to swimming, breast stroke is all that I know. So I remember signing up for a proper lesson 3 months ago to equip myself with new techniques, particularly free style.

Mid lesson, I realized free style is the hardest to conquer if you don't "kick" since young. As it is, I'm still correcting my S-stroke and instead of moving upwards, I tend to slant sideways when I breathe for air.

Though it's my last lesson today, I'm happy to finish something that I really wanted to do. Can't thank Sheralyn enough for her guidance and encouragement to #keeponlearning and #nevergiveup!

Dinner at Sedap Corner

There are a couple of my favourite eateries at Simpang Bedok and one of them is Sedap Corner. The only downside is that you have to wait for at least 25 mins to half an hour for the food to arrive, a no-no if you're the impatient type. But this is what 'slow food' is all about - the people at Sedap Corner really take their time to meticulously prepare their dishes to perfection. And the owner is non other than the famous Chef Bob who has appeared in many of Suria's cooking programmes like Chef Bob Asli & Makan Boomz.

And of course, to really enjoy my slow food, I make sure that Shaura is preoccupied with her interactive teddy (seen above) and her favourite biscuit snack.

My order: Mee Goreng Mamak

Aiman's favourites: Susu lemak manis & (black)berry juice

Loving this pic. Shaura looks super cheeky here.

Raudaa's favourite: Durian Toast

Fazlan's favourite: Vietnam beef noodles

Last but not least, Shaura's favourite past time when we're out: Chasing after cats!

And she'll make sure that she gets to touch them!

So where is this Sedap Corner?

Swimming Good Times!

Shaura loves water so it's just natural when we first introduce her to swim, doing simple kicks in her buoy. She loves it! But it's been a long time since we had a swinging swimming good times! The first post on Shaura's swimming lesson was posted here back in Dec 2010. At 16 months, Shaura has definitely outgrown her bumble bee swimsuit. Thank god for the suit which Kakak gave on Shaura's birthday, it fits her albeit tight-fitting. Sigh. It's true, baby does grow very fast!

Seen above, Fazlan's blowing air into the buoy. Blow, wind, blow!

We lost Shaura's coconut tree buoy (picture above) and had to buy a new one - a red patrol car meant to be recycled for Shaura's baby brother. Hehehe.

The best part about swimming - we get to meet Hani Natasya, the proud owner of Kiki, the cat. Shaura loves Kiki, you can tell from the way she holds him dearly, just like hugging her favourite teddy bear.

This picture says it all. Shaura's supper happy just to be near Kiki.

And of course, Shaura is even happier when she's in the pool.

Hubby and I are thinking of enrolling Shaura for a proper swimming lesson when she turns 2. The difficult part - to coax her out of the pool after every session. She'll definitely kick up a big fuss :/

Survival skill: First swimming lesson

I've been waiting for the right time to bring Shaura to the swimming pool.
After all, it's important that I start early to teach her to be at ease with water,
especially after the flash flood incident that hit Singapore last July.

It affected my family. Shaura was barely 2 months old then.
I knew right from the beginning that I should teach her
the most important survival skill in life - to swim!

Here's the tricky part - I know Shaura loves bathing time but that doesn't mean she loves water activities.
Just like if you love to eat, that doesn't mean you love to eat e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.
I'm sure you'll be selective when it comes to food, right?
The same theory applies.

I've done a checklist to ensure Shaura is comfortable for her first swimming lesson.
I want her to have FUN, and at the same time, keep the activity within budget!

I'm glad the first lesson went really well.
Shaura simply loves being in the pool, doing splish-splashing and getting curious
by touching her tree-looking buoy. We sure look forward to the next water activity!

Here's a very happy Shaura Marissa...
Her first swimming lesson in a summary :)

Do note: Never leave your baby alone during water play.
Young children have been known to drown in small amounts of water.

Shaura's simple life

Hello Mummy's friends! I'm Shaura Marissa. I love living my simple life. What do I do everyday? Well, I eat, sleep and pass motion. I love to Zzz the most as doctors around the world have encouraged babies to sleep to help them grow. Well, I trust you, doctors! We went to Bedok Polyclinic today for my second jab of Hepatitis B vaccine. It's good to know that my weight has increased from 2.675kg to 4.5kg in just one month. Mummy says I'm as heavy as her ancient tyrannosaurus laptop, whatever that means! :S

I cry every 2 hours for food i.e. 90ml of milk per feeding - a good improvement as I used to only consume 60ml. Mummy keeps on complaining that she's tired but I hope you understand, Mummy, that I need the extra energy boost and immunity to support my overall mental and physical development. I was such a small, teeny weeny baby when I was born, it kind of increased my confidence to know that I'm growing well. I'm proud to show you my chubby cheeks! They get chubbier and chubbier everyday, much to Daddy's delight of course. See pictures below taken from Mummy's Blackberry. (Psst! She doesn't like her phone. If you're kind enough to exchange your iPhone with her, please please do let her know. I'm sure she'll be more than happy to accept that exchange :D)

I know, I know. Mummy loves capturing my un-glamourous moments, especially while I'm sleeping and unaware of her actions. She's also easily excited at my slightest attempt to smile or giggle. I get annoyed with her kisses but it's heartwarming to know that she dotes on me, having read the latest news on a father who beats his own daughters. Must be painful, don't you think? Guess I'm blessed that my Mummy and Daddy are not like him.

Mummy likes to bring me out for outings. We went to a cool place called Orchard Road last Thursday to meet Mummy's cool friends: Aunt Huda and Uncle Den who just got married last week, Aunt Dyla and hubby, Aunt Netty, Aunt Luk, Uncle Ariff, Uncle Aiman and Uncle Iskandar.

Mummy has many friends, I'm having a hard time remembering the names! -_-
